Walter Lindsay Obituary

Walter Gene Lindsay, lifelong Seminole, Oklahoma resident, passed from this life on February 2, 2021 at the age of 74 at Seminole Care and Rehabilitation Center in Seminole. He was born November 27, 1946 in Talihina, Oklahoma to Willie and Lizzie (Coody) Lindsay. Gene attended Jones Academy in Hartshorne, Oklahoma and graduated in 1967. Gene served his country in the United States Army from 1968-1970. He later attended Tulsa Welding School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He worked for BFI Waste Services for many years.

Gene was a member of the Mekusukey Indian Baptist Church and the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma. He was known for sitting at Happy Foods Store drinking coffee and always smoking non-filter cigarettes. He was the type of man that would help his family and friends when he could. He loved Sunday dinners at his mom’s house.

Gene is survived by his daughter; Elissa Lindsay of Seminole, Oklahoma, his sister; Augustine Lindsay of Earlsboro, Oklahoma, brothers; Jimmy and Peggy Lindsay of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Leroy and Debbie Mitchell of Seminole, Oklahoma and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Bobby Jack Spencer, Charles, Eugene, Thomas and Alex Lindsay, sisters; Bertha Lindsay Deere, Mary Crain and Dorothy Davis, nephews; Dwight Lindsay and Russell Crain and nieces Sonnya Lindsay, Taylor Lofton and Crystal Davis.

Gene will be taken home at 28 Randolph Drive on Thursday, February 4, 2021. The wake service will take place there on Friday, February 5, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. He will be taken to Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, February 6, 2021 for the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. with Kevin Fox and Houston Tiger officiating. Interment will follow at Little Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Beau Lindsey, Elijah Jones, Aaron and Garrett Lena, Tracy Lindsay, Jason Mitchell and Kyle Coody. Honorary bearers will be Jaelin Jones, Tim Lindsay, Samuel Spencer, Jaden and Jace Mitchell, Mark Jones and his nephews and great nephews.

Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
