Shelly McCutcheon Obituary

Shelly Dawn (Hendryx) McCutcheon received her heavenly reward on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 in Shawnee, Oklahoma at the age of 50. Shelly was born May 18, 1972, in Seminole, Oklahoma, to Jeffery Clyde Hendryx and Gayla June Hendryx. She grew up in Seminole.

Shelly was a graduate of Seminole High School, Class of 1990. She continued her education, attending Oklahoma Baptist University and obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1995. While attending OBU she crossed paths with her mentor, Dr. Linda McElroy. Dr. Mac became a pillar in her life.

Shelly married the love of her life, Joshua Lee McCutcheon January 8, 1993 at Freewill Baptist Church in Seminole, Oklahoma. Shelly loved Joshua with all she had. She loved spending time with him.

She spent many years working in daycares as a worker and later became a Director. Shelly left the daycare to be a stay-at-home mom to her three beautiful children. When her children began school, she became a volunteer at Varnum Public Schools in Brenda Shockley’s classroom. Mrs. Shockley mentored her and encouraged her to pursue her teaching certification. Shelly completed the process and fulfilled the role of teacher and softball coach at Varnum for 4 years. She loved softball and spent many hours on the field as a player, mother, and coach.

In 2016, she was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. Without a lung transplant, she would only have 6 months to live. Many people prayed, and after 42 days in the hospital she received her transplant on her 44th birthday! The second lung was sewn in at the time of her birth 44 years earlier. God performed a miracle, and she used her story to touch lives all over the world.

Shelly had many hobbies. She loved writing songs and devotionals. Before her sickness, she enjoyed riding motorcycles and traveling with her husband, Joshua. Shelly’s children and grandsons were her life. Shelly was a devoted, selfless, and loving mother. She would do anything to see her kids smile. Shelly loved her grandsons so very much. She spent many hours reading to them and teaching them so many things.

Shelly loved God above all else. Her greatest desire was to see souls saved. She spent many years ministering to youth and adults alike. She attended The Praise Center Assembly of God.

Shelly is survived by her husband of 29 years, Joshua McCutcheon, three children, Melissa and Tyler Sensabaugh, Joshua Caleb McCutcheon and Josie Watson, and Laura McCutcheon, two grandsons, Caden and Asher Sensabaugh, and one brother, Brad Hendryx. Shelly had numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her Aunt Lois who was very special to her. Lois played the role of mother to Shelly and supported her in all she did.

Shelly is preceded in death by her mother and father Gayla Hendryx and Jeffery Hendryx, her maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Dixie Fowler, and her paternal grandparents, Ed and Imogene Hendryx.

A Celebration of her life will take place Monday, September 12, 2022 at 10 a.m., at Varnum Gymnasium.  Burial will follow at Little Cemetery.  Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
