Richard Harjo

Richard Harjo, Seminole resident, passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2021, in Seminole, Oklahoma.    Richard was born on July 31, 1949, in Wolf, Oklahoma, to Lena and Lina (Powell) Harjo.  He grew up in and spent his life in Seminole, OK.  Richard loved going to church.

Richard is survived by three brothers, George Harjo of Oklahoma City, OK, Jimmy Harjo of Seminole, OK and Leo Tiger of Seminole, OK; one sister, Donna Kay Renton of Seminole, OK and many other family and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Lena and Lina Harjo; brothers, Andrew Harjo, Frank Harjo and Kenneth Harjo and sisters, Betty Tanyan and Sylvia Harjo.

Casket bearers will be Wayne Pepworth, Grant Campbell, Junior Tiger, Simon Tiger, Albert Tiger and Sonny Harjo.

Honorary casket bearers will be Sand Creek Eufaula Baptist Church members, Franky Harjo, Jimmy Harjo Jr., Nelson Battiest, Andrew Roubidoux, Tanner Coon Harjo, Jackie Helbutta and David Blues Postoak.

Viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, OK. 

Wake services will be held on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, OK.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Sand Creek Eufaula Baptist Church in Wewoka, with Pastor Houston Tiger and Pastor Jason Tiger officiating.  Burial will follow at Harjo Family Cemetery.
