Orville “Wayne” Maxwell was born to Paul and Leona Maxwell on January 29,1939.  Wayne was married the love of his life of 64 years to Jeanie Cleveland, on September 3,1958 in the Seminole Church of Christ Parsonage. Wayne is survived by Jeanie Maxwell of Okc, Bruce Maxwell of Edmond, Lisa Dixon and husband Larry of Okc, and Angi Duverger and husband Lamar of Okc.  Poppa adored his grandchildren: Camden Maxwell of OKC, Frank Rahimi of OKC, Corbin Maxwell of Okc, Paige Mullins of Okc, Callyn Maxwell of Ft. Worth,TX Andrew Dixon of Okc, Zachary Dixon and wife Kim of Okc, Harold Duverger of Okc, Louisa Duverger of Okc, Elise Duverger of Searcy, AR, and Gavin Duverger of Okc.    Wayne loved visits, hugs and kisses from his 2 great grandchildren: Charlie and Cash Maxwell. Wayne is survived by his baby sister, Shirley Carson of Ames,OK. Wayne is also survived by Steven Pham, Jonathan Kwee, Laura Maxwell and a host of extended, family and friends.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Leona Maxwell, his brother, Richard Maxwell, sister in law/daughter Carole Reimer, and infant daughter, Kelly. 

Wayne’s career had a span of 66 years. His career started in the summer of 1957 as a roughneck on a drilling rig.  This was just the beginning of his love for the oil field.

After high school graduation in 1958, he started as a page at The State Capitol in 1959. He moved his bride and young son to Hennessey Oklahoma and started a permanent career in the oil business in 1961 as a contract pumper. This opened up many opportunities over the years. He was a partner at Hennessey Propane Company in the mid-60s. Pumping Services Inc. was established in the 1970s.  A partnership with Diamond T Drilling Company in the late 70s. Precision Casing and Roustabout in the early 80s. He became an independent oil producer in the late 80s and early 90s in the Seminole area. His oil field career ended earlier this summer with the selling of his oil leases.  Wayne knew every aspect of the oil business and loved going to work every day.

Over the years, Wayne was active in The Hennessey Lions Club, Hennessey Eagles Booster Club where he served as treasurer, president of a bowling league for 20 years, helped established and build Lariat Creek Christian Camp. Bruce recalls when he was young, running “the wells” on Saturday mornings and then loading the pick-up with lumber and tools to help work at Lariat Creek all afternoon.  Wayne was a founding member of the Hennessey Church of Christ, was a two-term City Councilman for the city of Seminole and was honored to serve as deacon of the Seminole Church of Christ.

Wayne was a lover of sports - all sports! He played football in high school, was on an adult baseball team, he loved bowling, playing tennis and golf. He most loved playing basketball with his grandsons. He coached girls summer league softball for many years. Most of all, he was an avid OU fan. He loved his BOOMER SOONERS!

Wayne never met a stranger.  He was always the last to leave church. He truly had a servant’s heart and would give the shirt off his back to anyone that needed it.  When we were driving and saw a car broken down on the side of the road, we’d immediately hear the blinker where he was pulling over to help. Back in the day he would pick hitchhikers up and take them wherever they needed to go. If they were hungry, he fed them by bringing them home and setting them at the supper table along with the family. He took this opportunity to share God with them.

He lived his Christianity every single day by loving God, with all his heart soul, mind and strength. He was the perfect example of what it looks like to love your neighbor as yourself.

He did unto others as he would want them to do onto him.

The family will receive visitors Thursday, June 8, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Swearingen Funeral Home 1001 N. Milt Phillips Avenue Seminole, Oklahoma.

The funeral service for Wayne will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the Seminole Church of Christ, 12040 Hwy 99 North in Seminole, Oklahoma with Arpoika Daniels officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, east of Seminole.
