James "Jim" Roche Obituary

James “Jim” or “Dutch” Roche passed away on October 10th, 2021, at the age of 87, in his hometown of Seminole, Oklahoma. He was born in Parsons Kansas, October 22, 1933, to Thomas Raymond Roche and Myrtle Cora (Carper) Roche. His father was a machinist for the Katy Railroad and his mother owned a local cafe. He was the second youngest of 8 children (6 brothers and 2 sisters).  Theirs was a traditional large Catholic family.

Growing up in Parsons, Jim attended and graduated from St. Patrick’s school. During this time, he excelled at the sports of baseball and football. After graduation, he attended Fort Hayes State College where he played football.

On June 26, 1954, he married the love of his life Jeri (Carson) Roche. They had 5 children: Randy, Kerry, Cathy, Susan, and Theresa.

Soon after, Jim followed the family tradition of service by joining the Air Force. While in the Air Force, he and his family spent time in Florida, Missouri, Washington State, and England.  He was proud of his work during the late 50s helping deploy the new Thor missile system. After leaving the Air Force he became a courier for the Atomic Energy Commission where he transported sensitive cargo.  One time he and his colleagues had local law enforcement called on them when a gas station owner mistook them for the mob due to their dark suits, dark cars, and shoulder holsters. He eventually went to work for Atlantic Richfield Oil Company (early 70s); this brought him to Garber, OK., and shortly thereafter to Seminole, OK. He remained in Seminole for the rest of his life.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeri (Carson) Roche, his parents, 5 brothers, 2 sisters, his son, Randy Roche and grandson, Sean Benn. He is survived by his daughters, Kerry Roche of Seminole, OK, Cathy Roche of Harrah,OK, Susan Taff and husband Roy of Seminole, OK and Theresa Campbell and husband Mike of Stillwater, OK, grandchildren Meisha Carter of Seminole,  Matthew Webb and wife Michelle of Oklahoma City, Gabe Campbell and Stella Campbell of Stillwater and great grandchildren.

Finally, Jim would want you to know he had his priorities straight: God, Country, Family and Notre Dame.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 22, 2021, at Little Cemetery in Seminole, Oklahoma with Carl Whitfield officiating.
