Jaennetta Reed Obituary

Jaennetta Reed was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma on January 7, 1944. Jaennetta was the second of five children born to Russell Gaulding and Alberta Gaulding (Armstead). Jaennetta departed this life on Tuesday, January 5, 2021. She experienced tragedies at a young age when both parents and brothers died before she reached the age of nine yrs. old. Her paternal grandparents took care of her until the death of her Grandmother. Jaennetta’s care was resumed with her beloved Aunt Lurena who was already taken care of her younger sister. Her childhood was filled with fun and adventures with cousins and friends.

Jaennetta accepted Jesus Christ at young age under the leadership of Reverend J.E. Woodfork at New Hope Baptist Church in Earlsboro, Oklahoma. She rededicated her life with Christ and became a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church in Shawnee, OK under the leadership of Reverend W. Arnold.  Jaennetta loved going to church, she was an active member at her church, as an Usher. She later became a member with her church’s Usher Board, eventually becoming the President until her illness. She was an active member of City-Wide Usher Board in Oklahoma City.  She was called upon often to usher at many different churches.

Jaennetta received her early education at Harjo School and Earlsboro High School. She graduated in 1963. She was an outstanding athlete in basketball and softball. Jaennetta’s passion for softball led her to playing semi-professional across the state of Oklahoma and the Midwestern states.

In high school, she met and was engaged to William Harrison. They never married, but from this union a daughter was born, Norma.

Jaennetta later met and united in holy matrimony with Tredell Reed. They were married on October 5, 1964 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. This union was blessed with two daughters, Ruth and Alberta.

Jaennetta retired from St. Gregory College after 26 years of service. She spent her free time volunteering at South Central Workshop and Meals on Wheel. She spent rest of her time fishing.  She was known for sharing her catches of the day with family and friends. Jaennetta’s greatest joy was always making time for her Grandchildren AND Great Grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling. Her biggest bucket wish was to visit Jamaica. In 2013, she cruised to Jamaica and had the best time ever.

She was preceded in death by both parents; brothers, John (1947) and Jimmie Lee (1949); Niece Robin Conway (2006); Great Grandson Matthew Wytch (2005) and Great Grandson Rashad Reed (2017).
