Irene (Goodwin) Garner

Irene (Goodwin) Garner, age 90 and a resident of Konawa, Oklahoma, passed away May 29, 2022 at Mercy Hospital in Ada, Oklahoma.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. June 6, 2022 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa.  Rev. Mitch Williams will officiate.

Irene was born December 6, 1931 in Salford, England to William Henry Goodwin and Amelia (Foulkes) “Milly” Goodwin.  She graduated from high school in England, and she married Jack Garner September 1, 1956 in Manchester, England.  They spent their honeymoon in Scotland; then, she settled into the life of an Air Force wife.  Konawa, Oklahoma is where they retired.  Irene worked as a seamstress at Michael’s Casuals in Konawa for many years.  She really enjoyed her two-mile walk - come rain or snow.  The 100 degree Oklahoma summer days never slowed her down.

She is survived by three sons, James Garner of Konawa, Richard Garner and wife, Carla of Shawnee, Oklahoma, and Alan Garner of Konawa; two daughters, Janice Downey and husband, Rex of Chickasha Oklahoma, and Jackie Bush and husband, Rick of Fairbanks, Alaska; grandchildren, Gina and Rickie Mullins of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Laressa and Bryan Thomas of Eufaula, Oklahoma, Susan Rantall of Norman, Oklahoma, Matt and Julie Garner, Kayla and Jay Scoggins, and Stacy Garner, all of Shawnee, Oklahoma, and Josiah and Kade Bush of Fairbanks, Alaska; fourteen great grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Garner; parents, William and Milly Goodwin; and four sisters, Sheila, Audrey, Pat, and Linda.
