Hugh Dean Megee, 54, longtime Seminole, Oklahoma resident and Funeral Director, passed from this life on Friday, September 4, 2020 in Seminole, Oklahoma. Hugh was born September 2, 1966 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Dean and Gail (Sullivan) Megee. He was the great grandson of Hughey and Maudie McMillin, who Hugh was named after, and Bill and Queenie Sullivan all of St. Louis, Oklahoma. Hugh was the grandson of “Frog” Harold and Helen Sullivan of St. Louis, Oklahoma and Ray and Sadie Megee of Konawa, Oklahoma.
Hugh was raised in St. Louis, Oklahoma where he attended the St. Louis Elementary School. He attended Tecumseh Middle School and the graduated from Maud High School in 1984. During his high school years, Hugh often helped Al Knight with funerals at Knight Funeral Home in Maud, Oklahoma. This experience changed his life forever, because from it he learned his calling in life. After high school, Hugh attended Seminole Junior College where he received his associate’s degree in 1986. He continued his college career at Central State University and graduated in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree in mortuary science. Hugh became a licensed funeral director and embalmer in July of 1988. Through college he worked at Gaskill Funeral Home in Shawnee, Oklahoma and after graduation he worked for a short time at Resthaven Funeral Home in Shawnee. He then became employed with Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole and surprisingly, as fate would have it, became manager and funeral director of Knight Funeral Home in Maud, after the purchase from Al Knight by Swearingen Funeral Home. Hugh served as Funeral director and embalmer for 32 years with Swearingen Funeral Home, helping countless families with dedicated and compassionate service.
Hugh leaves to cherish his memories; two sons; Zachary T. Megee of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Gavin C. Megee of Shawnee, Oklahoma, his mother Gail Collins of Seminole, Oklahoma, his sister Pam West of Midwest City, Oklahoma, Cathy Megee, the mother of his children of Shawnee, Oklahoma and many other family members, friends and colleagues.
At the family’s request, due to the concerns of the Covid19 virus, there will be a Private Service for immediate family only, with final burial at Cummings Cemetery in Maud, Oklahoma.
For the public, there will a guest book to sign at Swearingen Funeral Home until noon on Saturday and the Funeral Service will be streaming on Facebook Live, starting at 2:25 P.M., Saturday, September 12, 2020.
