Donna Kay (Douglass) Lovelady

Donna Kay Lovelady, 79, of Seminole, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2021, in her home. She was born on November 12, 1941, in Seminole, the daughter of the late Betty Douglass Ambrose and Brown Thomas Douglass. Donna was the beloved wife of John Lovelady for the past 62 years and loving mother to her two daughters, Sheryl Lovelady and Lori Patterson. She thrived on enthusiastically cheering for her daughters in everything they ever did in life, from softball fields and scraped knees to college graduations and later on to careers. She delighted in spoiling her two grandsons Dustin Patterson and Jordan Patterson.

Donna graduated from Varnum High School in 1959 and shortly afterward married John Lovelady. They resided in Seminole for most of their lives with John making a career at Wrangler and she at Sears. She had a lifetime love of music and was music director for many years at Twin Oak Baptist Church where she and John have been members since 1976.

As a child, Donna loved exploring the city library to pick out and read books. She continued a passion for books her entire life. She also loved to sew and was a talented seamstress. She sewed for her daughters and grandsons and inherited a deep love of quilting from her grandmother. Donna was an experienced, prolific and passionate quilter. In retirement, she loved making quilts as gifts for friends and family, and especially delighted in having a large stock of baby quilts at the ready for any new arrival she heard about.

Along with her family, Donna leaves behind a very caring and supportive church community at Twin Oak Baptist Church and many close friends. She will always be remembered for her wonderful singing voice, her generous heart, and her compassion for others. She will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her and is forever in our hearts. She is survived by her husband John, of Seminole, daughters Lori Patterson of Norman and Sheryl Lovelady of Oklahoma City and her brother Gene Douglass and his daughter Rachel Davis, of Atlanta, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Janice Boatman of Slaton, Texas and her two daughters Anita Coleman and Carolyn Boatman.

Services will be held at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at 1:00 p.m., with a brief memorial to follow at Little Cemetery.
