The Lord gave Winnie “Wany” Harjo her first breath on May 10, 1951, to Reverand John and Nora Tebe in Wewoka. She gave the Lord her last breath and entered eternal rest on April 1st, 2026, at the age of 74.
Wany graduated from Sequoyah High School in Tahlequah. She also went to Pontotoc Area Vo-Tech in Ada and Gordon Cooper in Shawnee. She was employed at Sports Supports for 10 years until it phased out. She then worked for the Seminole Nation Bingo Hall, Rivermist Gaming and Rivermist Store. She moved up to office manager and human resources assistant before retiring on June 30, 2010.
Wany was the runner up in the 2006 Seminole Nation Senior Princess Pageant. She won traditional dress and impromptu question. She was a member of the Cedar Creek Eufaula Church, where she served as treasurer and was later installed as a Sister Leader. A position she held until health problems prevented her continuing to do so.
Wany married Ronnie Harjo on July 6, 1976, in Konawa. They were married 36 years until his passing on May 8, 2012.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie Harjo; an infant son, Ronnie Lance Harjo; parents Reverand John and Nora Tebe; grandmother Susie Connor; four uncles, Joe Charty, Panoskee Harjo, Jimmy J Harjo, and Kiven Harjo; two nephews, Johnson Hulbutta, and Tommy Tebe; one brother, George Tebe; and one sister, Rebecca Graham.
Wany is survived by one daughter, Colleen Daw; one grandson, Hiisiis Ronne Daw, of Wewoka; two sons, Terence and wife Amber Harjo, from North Dakota, and Warren Harjo, from Konawa; two sisters, Mary Hulbutta, of Wewoka and Linda Hulbutta, of Wewoka; two nieces that she adored, Kristy Hulbutta, and Denise Hulbutta; a miracle great niece, Cednei Jane Hulbutta; three nephews that she was close to, Tommy Tebe, Norman Hill, and Eugene Harjo; along with Jerome Hill, Anthony Hill, Hal Hubutta, and Howard Hulbutta; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
Pall bearers will be Eugene Harjo, Anthony Hill, Nathan Hulbutta, Bryant Johnson, Bryden Johnson, and Chuck Hulbutta;
Honorary pall bearers, are Norman Hill, Hal Hulbutta, Jerome Hill, and Bill Foster.
Viewing will be Saturday, April 4, 2026, from 10:00-5:00 at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
Services will be Monday, April 6, 2026, at 1:00 P.M. at Cedar Creek Eufaula Church, in Konawa. Interment will follow at the Tebe Family Cemetery in Sasakwa. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
