Wanda Dean (Gaines) Lowry , age 88 and a long-time resident of Konawa, Oklahoma passed away February 6, 2023 surrounded by her loving family at Mercy Hospital in Ada, Oklahoma.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 10, 2023 at the First Baptist Church in Konawa under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa.  Rev. Heath Sapp will officiate, and burial will follow at Konawa Cemetery.  Casket bearers are Austin Lowry, Dallas Lowry, Heath Lowry, Jason Lowry, Logan Jackson, and Neil Wieghard.  Honorary bearers are Damon Jackson, Colten Jesse, Glenn Peters, Donnie Stover, Jamie Griffin, Todd Jesse, and Stanley Carpitcher.

Wanda was born February 27, 1934 in Sasakwa, Oklahoma to Edward F. Gaines and Essie (Robinson) Gaines.  She graduated from Maud High School, and she worked for more than fifty-five years as the City Clerk for the City of Konawa.  She married Rex Wortham Lowry on September 15, 1951 in Sherman, Texas. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Konawa.  During her lifetime, Wanda served on the Board of Central Oklahoma Family Medical Center of Konawa and on the Board of the Konawa Public Library.   She was elected Citizen of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce of Konawa in 2013.  She was an avid reader who loved attending social events and being with her family, and her grandchildren were the joy of her life.  Wanda was a very important part of the Konawa community, and she will be greatly missed.

She is survived by one son, Ron Lowry of Konawa; one daughter, Deborah Jackson and husband Danny of Del City, Oklahoma; one daughter-in-law, Kathy Lowry of Konawa; two sisters, Betty Wieghard of Konawa, and Linda Beaty and husband, Robert of Fairfax, Virginia; 11 grandchildren, Damon Jackson, Sonya White, Michelle Jesse, Melissa Griffin, Jason Lowry, Heath Lowry, Paige Stover, Lilah Carpitcher, Austin Lowry, Dallas Lowry, and Telerra Lowry; 24 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Lowry; her parents; and two sons, Ricky and Tim Lowry.
