Vina Mae (Thomas) Crockett who was also known as “Smiling Lady” went to be with the Lord on June 20, 2025 at her home at the age of 85. Vina was the third child born to Toby Thomas and Eula Faye (Hughes) Wilson. She was raised between Seminole and Hughes Counties. She met and married O.T. Johnson Jr. and to this union five girls were born. She later met and married Elmer Crocket Sr. and to this union four boys and one girl were born.
Vina came to know the Lord at an early age being baptized at New Hope Baptist Church in Wetumka, OK. Later she became an active member at Spring Creek Baptist Church in Wewoka, OK where she received her license as a missionary under the leadership of the late Rev. Emmitt Elbert. After the closing of Spring Creek Baptist Church, she joined Life in Christ ministry under the leadership of Elder Wesley Thomas until her passing.
Vina had a strong love for the Lord and reading the bible, discussing and sharing the word. Her love for her family was a strong bond that no one could break. Her friends were for life.
Vina was preceded in death by both parents; her spouses; one son; one daughter; one granddaughter and four siblings.
The legacy she leaves to cherish and celebrate her children, Faye (Dion) Peters, Pat (Tim) Hunt, Audrey (Ezell) Eldridge, Tina Johnson (Thomas), Loretta Johnson (Charles), Elmer (Sherry) Crockett, Troy (Lisa) Crockett, Marcus (Billie) Crockett; maternal siblings, Jimmie Lee (Gloria) Thomas, Wesley Ray (Marie) Thomas, Lesley Ray Thomas, Olivia (Paul) Purvey; her favorite uncle, Booker T. (Lillie) Hughes; a host of paternal siblings; one grandson she raised as her own, Roosevelt Oatis and special daughter, Kim (Eric) Hayworth. Continuing her legacy are her 31 grandchildren, 76 great grandchildren and 32 great great grandchildren. She also leaves a host of family and friends.
Those serving as casket bearers will be Tim Hunt, Elmer Gentry, Steve Thomas, Patrick Thomas, James Amour and Dion Peters. Honorary casket bearers will be Vina’s grandsons. Flower bearers will be her granddaughters.
Viewing will be from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2025 and from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 27, 2025 at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, OK. Interment will follow at Westwood Cemetery in Wewoka. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, OK.
