Steve Jackson, of Seminole County, passed away on May 30th, 2026, at Prague Hospital, at the age of 77. Steve, the youngest son of Jonas (Tab) and Reba Jackson, was born on May 10th, 1949, in San Francisco, California. What followed was the life of one of the world's kindest men. A kindness that does not announce itself but becomes the foundation everyone else stands upon.
Steve grew up in and around Seminole and Shawnee, Oklahoma. He graduated from Shawnee High School. After high school, he joined the United States Army, training in Louisiana, then serving in Korea as a mechanic. Honorably discharged in 1971, he returned to Shawnee, Oklahoma, where he met and married his wife of 54 years, Cheryl Jackson (Cleere).
Steve and Cheryl had two sons, Phillip and John Jackson. As a father and husband, he always led by example. He taught his sons how to love their families and how to show kindness to those around them consistently and selflessly.
Beyond his family, Steve enjoyed working with his hands and was a skilled driver. He worked as a mechanic and delivery driver for Scrivner Foods for 17 years, later working many roles at Tinker Air Force Base, where he retired. Whatever his role he was always looking out for others, protecting the country, keeping groceries on shelves and drivers safe.
Most importantly, Steve devoted his life to serving the Lord. He served many roles in the churches he attended, including deacon, Sunday School teacher, Southern Baptist Disaster Relief cook, chaplain at the county jail, and probably the last guy putting up tables and chairs after a church fellowship. And his faithful service continued outside of the church, where he was always ready to lend a hand, mow a lawn, or give a ride to anyone who needed it.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Cheryl Jackson; his sister, Rhonda Funk; his brother, Greg Jackson; his sons, Phillip Jackson, and John Jackson with his wife Heather; his granddaughters, Emily Jumper and her husband Gus, and Kendra Jackson; and his great-grandson, Hudson Jumper.
Visitation with family will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 1, at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 2nd, at a Temple Baptist Church, 1234 E. Highland Street in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Brother Mike Craig will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery in Seminole, Oklahoma.
Casket bearers will be: Gary Slate, Jason Wilson, Stephen Moore, Gus Jumper, John Jackson and Phillip Jackson. Honorary bearers: will be Randy Blewett, Jim Wilson, Ray Funk and Greg Jackson.
In lieu of flowers-which Steve didn't care much for anyway-please consider doing an unexpected kindness for someone in need.
Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
