Sernanda Ruth Anderson, McAlester resident, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at her home, at the age of 75. Sernanda was born on September 21, 1946, in Midland, Texas to Charley Robert Flannery and Alma Clay (Brown) Flannery.
Sernanda enjoyed knitting and crocheting, playing piano, watching her grandchildren’s activities, decorating her home and traveling with her family and through her work. She was a volunteer at TLC Wig Closet at McAlester Regional Health Center.
Sernanda had several Army accomplishments to include the Achievement Medal, 2011 Medal for Civilian Service, 2014 Commander’s Award Civilian Service, 1992 Secretary of the Year, 2014 26 years of Service to the Base, Four years (2003, 2007, 2010 and 2012) Certificate of Appreciation from Colonel and in 2002 she received a promotion to Environmental Protection Specialist GS-11.
Sernanda was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Arpelar. She enjoyed leading the women’s bible study group, supporting her husband in leading the song worship either by playing the piano or singing alongside him.
Sernanda had a whistle that was infamous within the family. Her children and younger cousins knew when they heard her whistle they better come a running. Her grandchildren knew when they heard that whistle Grandma was there to cheer them on.
Sernanda is survived by her husband, Philip David Anderson of the home; son, William Anderson and spouse, Tammy of Stratford, OK; two daughters, Serna Anderson of Stuart, OK and Dana (Anderson) Thompson and spouse, Jay of Holdenville, OK; six grandchildren, Landon Anderson and spouse, Beth, Lakelynn Green and spouse, Jacob, Laney Anderson, Lundyn Anderson, Colton Thompson and Ashlynn Crews and spouse, Kord; great grandson, Benjamin Green; three step-daughters, Jacque (Anderson) Orndorf and spouse, Dennis of Arizona, Laura (Anderson) Page and spouse, Tye of South Carolina and Leslie D. Prigge and spouse, Michael of Florida; numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; numerous cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and many other family and friends.
Sernanda was preceded in death by her parents Charley and Alma Flannery and her brother, Charles Edward Flannery.
Those serving as casket bearers will be Phillip Anderson, Landon Anderson, Lakelynn (Anderson) Green, Laney Anderson, Lundyn Anderson, Colton Thompson and Ashlynn (Thompson) Crews. Honorary casket bearers will be Jacob Green, Kord Crews and Beth (Kiosterud) Anderson.
Viewing will be Wednesday, August 10, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Thursday, August 11, 2022 from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 12, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, there has been an account set up at Security State Bank in Holdenville for memorial contributions. The family will use the funds to honor Sernanda. Checks may be made payable to Dana Thompson and or Serna Anderson under “Daddy’s Account”.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
