Noble resident, Roy Eugene “Gene” Darr passed peacefully at home with his family by his side Sunday, May 18 2025, at the age of 77.
Gene, the son of Roy and Georgia (Burkhart) Darr was born September 9, 1947, in Seminole. He attended New Lima Schools where he met “The Reason God Made Oklahoma” Peggy Jo Bell. He is a graduate of New Lima High School Class of 1965. He continued his education at OST in Okmulgee where he studied diesel mechanics. In August 1966 Gene enlisted in the US Army and served in 2 yrs and 8 months in Vietnam. He returned from Vietnam in May of 1969. On June 7, 1969, he married the love of his life Peggy Jo Bell. Gene and Peggy made their home in Texas for a short time where they welcomed their only child Trey. They came back home to Oklahoma where Gene was employed as a natural gas and oil compressor mechanic. Eventually Gene surrendered to preach and settled in Noble where he spent many years pastoring Liberty Missionary Baptist Church and Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. Over the years Gene frequently filled in as the interim pastor at many churches. He enjoyed Hunting, fishing, working on cars, family gatherings, most of all he enjoyed being outdoors and spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Georgia Darr, wife Peggy, brothers Richard Darr, Corky Darr, Tim Darr, Kenneth and his wife Barbara Darr, niece Debbie Whitt and in laws Vernon and Ireta Bell.
He is survived by his son and daughter in law Trey and Amanda Darr, grandsons Hunter Darr, Graeson Darr and Tucker Darr, Brother and sister-in-law Gary and Kellie Darr, Brother Alan Darr, Mike and Dolores Bell, sister-in-law Debbie Darr among many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Although Gene and Peggy only had three grandsons they were “Nana and Papa” to Trey and Amanda’s many nieces and nephews.
Services will be Thursday May 22, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole OK. Interment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Seminole. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
