Earlsboro resident Raymond Hugh Newell, 95, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2025, at his home.
Raymond, the son of George and Sarah (Sealock) Newell, was born September 15, 1929, in Seminole. He graduated from Prairie Valley High School, with the class of 1948. Raymond proudly served in the US Army in the Korean War. On February 2, 1962, Raymond married Patricia Hammond, in Seminole. Raymond worked for the US Postal Service, working as a clerk and as a rural mail carrier. When he wasn’t in the post office, Raymond farmed, he always grew a large vegetable garden, he was particularly well known for his watermelons, and harvested pecans; he worked cattle and cut hay, he enjoyed fishing and could always be counted on for cutting and splitting fire wood. Raymond was longtime member of Walnut Ave Church of Christ, he was also a member of the Prairie Valley Alumni Association, he had been active with the Canadian Valley Security Patrol.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Newell; his parents, George and Sarah Newell; and his brothers and sisters, George Newell, Howard Newell, Robert Newell, Richard Newell, Nonna Rogers, and Mary Alice Davenport.
Raymond is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Debbie Newell, of Earlsboro; granddaughters, Sarah Newell, of Plano, TX., and Jenny and Steve Williams, of Shawnee; four great grandchildren, Raylee, Charlie, Truly, and Molly; and many other family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in Raymond’s name, to be made to the Walnut Ave Church of Christ in Seminole.
Services will be Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, with Terry Newell and Larry Snead officiating. Interment will be at Little Cemetery in Seminole. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
