Bowlegs resident Raymond Harjo was born October 3, 1962 in Talihina, Oklahoma to Mary Jane Carbitcher and Johnson Harjo. He passed away on Friday, December 31, 2021, in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
He was raised in Bowlegs, graduated from Bowlegs High School in 1982. After graduation he joined the National Guard, retiring after 25 years. He began his law enforcement career as a security guard at Thunderbird Casino. Later he became a truck driver. He was of the Baptist faith, a member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma, where he was a member of the Honor Guard. He was also an avid OSU Cowboys fan.
He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 children, 2 brothers, 1 sister and 3 nephews.
He is survived by Lisa of the home, daughter and grand daughter Stephanie and Mary Jane Harjo of the home; Eliza Harjo of Seminole, Wymetha Porras of Shawnee; Raymond Jr. of Lawton; 3 sisters, Phyllis Harjo of Bowlegs, Yolanda Harrison of Oklahoma City, and Linda Harrison of Shawnee; 1 brother, Darren Harjo of Konawa; his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Raymond will be taken to the family home in Bowlegs on Monday, January 3, 2022 at 4:00, where he will remain over night. He will be taken to Sand Creek Baptist Church in Wewoka, at 4:00, Tuesday, January 04, 2022, with wake services beginning at 7:00.
Pallbearers will be Buck Cedartree, Rabbit Hill, Waylon Cully, Ben Emarthle, Adjal Fixico, and Elijah Harrison. Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews, uncles and the Seminole Nation Honor Guard.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at 2:00 at Sand Creek Baptist Church in Wewoka with Houston Tiger and Eric Thlocco officiating. Burial will be at the Harjo Family Cemetery in Bowlegs.
