Nelda Brooks

Nelda Brooks , age 90 passed away March 22, 2023 at her home in Warr Acres, Oklahoma.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. April 12, 2023 at Avoca Church of Christ in Asher, Oklahoma under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa, Oklahoma.  Ray Newell will officiate, and burial will follow at Wanette Cemetery.

Nelda was born the seventh child of James L. “Dude” and Bertha (Davis) Brooks in Asher, Oklahoma on January 13, 1933.  Her family later moved to San Francisco, California where she graduated from Mission High School. Upon moving back to Oklahoma, she attended Central State College (now known as East Central University) in Ada, Oklahoma where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics.  Nelda went to work for Shell Oil and Gas where she was recruited to join the fledgling data processing group.  From there, her career took her to Continental Oil in Ponca City, and then to partner with Computer Management Corp in 1969.  In her long career, she worked with Information Retrieval Systems of Dallas, United Founders Life, Putnam City School District, Trigg Drilling, Amateur Softball Association, and Riley Electric.  Along the way, she obtained her MBA at Central State, and Master’s in Data Processing Management, as well as her C.P.A.  She was a life-long member of Avoca Church of Christ of Asher.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Donna Brooks of Katy, Texas; nieces and nephews, Katy Del Rio, Gary Brooks, Dixie Marshall, Cheryl McRae, Keith Zandona, Doug Zandona, all of California, Jim Brooks of New York, Scot Brooks, and Tracy Brooks Hunn, both of Texas, and Paige Roberts of Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Earl Brooks, Ophelia Grosz, Juanell Zandona, Bill Brooks, Jess L. “Buck” Brooks, and Kent Brooks; nieces and nephews, Gwen Del Rio, Ronnie Brooks, Julie Brooks, Jeannie Brooks, and Billy Brooks.
