In Loving Memory of Nan Fowler September 19, 1934 – October 3, 2025
Nan Carol (Street) Fowler, 91, of Shawnee, Oklahoma was surrounded by her loved ones when she went to sleep and woke up in Heaven on Friday, October 3, 2025.
She was born on September 19, 1934, in Yazoo City, Mississippi to Frank and Louise Street.
Nan married Rudy Fowler on January 17, 1951, in Phoenix, Arizona. As a military family, Nan, Rudy and their three children lived in Texas, Illinois, and Washington. In 1972, Rudy, Nan and the family moved from California to Seminole, Oklahoma where they purchased land and built a new home.
Nan gave her life to Christ in 1964 at First Southern Baptist Church, Sunnymead, California. She loved the Lord and to share her faith anytime there was an opportunity. She loved teaching children at Vacation Bible School. She would always pack her car with the neighborhood kids to take them to VBS.
She played the organ for a season at Highway Baptist Church. In later years, she attended Temple of Praise Church in Seminole. Nan had a heart for the needy. Every winter she and her sister Jan collected coats and clothing at a local church to give away.
Nan worked many jobs over the years including the Seminole County Election Board and Commissioner’s office in Wewoka. She got her real estate license and worked under Seminole Realty and enjoyed helping people find their new home. Nan was self-employed and had a residential and commercial cleaning service for 20 years.
The secret to Nan’s longevity: In her younger years she liked exercising to Jack LaLanne’s fitness television program. She walked the track at Northwood School early in the mornings. Nan still has exercise equipment that several of the grandkids are very interested in. Recently, Nan said the secret to living a long life is to “eat bacon, eggs and drink orange juice.”
Nan loved to learn new things. She got her high school diploma by taking night classes. She later took classes at Seminole State College. She taught herself to sew in her 30s, she taught herself to play the piano and organ in her 50s, obtained her real estate license in her 60s, and in her 70’s and 80’s she had the best well-known garage sales in Seminole. She had a knack for buying and selling. Nan had a very high standards and always washed and ironed the clothes she sold. She always played Christian music at her sales.
Nan was preceded in death by her husband, Rudy Fowler; son, Tom Fowler; great granddaughter, Kiley Kean; parents, Frank Street and Louise Street Ford; three brothers, Knovis, Frankie and Gerald Street; three sisters, Billie Hughes, Janice Lewis and Polly Dees.
