Minnie Ola Hinex

Minnie Ola Hinex began her Celebration of Life on July 14, 1941, in Payson, Oklahoma to her parents Richard and Mary Ann Gordon. She was the seventh of nine children. Growing up in Prague, OK, she met and married the love of her life on June 20, 1959, Joseph Hinex Jr. Four children were born to them Joseph, Curtis, Ethel, and Tonya. Minnie was a loving wife, caring mother and grandmother, fondly called “MawMaw”, and so much more.

Minnie was the seventh of nine children, and the youngest of the seven daughters. She loved her parents and all her siblings. Her sister Ella, who was closest in age to Minnie, was always spoken of with great funny, daring, and bold stories, of what they experienced as children growing up, Minnie simply adored her.

Minnie accepted Jesus Christ at a very early age and developed a heart of both care and compassionate. Later, after marriage and children, she continued her education graduating as a License Practical Nurse and worked as an LPN until she retired. Her love for Jesus Christ and her active passion to serve Him in every way could be seen and experienced as a member of New Hope Baptist, Earlsboro, OK where her greatest of many ministries was baking sweet potato pie, pecan pie, apple pie, Mississippi Mud cake, Earthquake cake, Pound cake, and making Banana pudding for many church fellowships. One of her dearest friends Sis. Rosie Mae Woodfork was always happy, and other loved ones Michelle, Kenneth, Kendal and Kristian Gilbert, were also glad to get one of the sweet potato pies, but never as happy as Minnie was to make them. She would eagerly share the recipe with others, but none could master or duplicate the same taste. When New Hope Baptist closed its doors due to fire, Minnie was welcomed and became a very happy member of Galilee Baptist Church, Shawnee, OK, where she served with dear friends Sis. Taylor and Deacon Melvin and others, on the Encouragement Committee. Pastor Anthony and LaShai Rhone, she loved as her children, indeed she was Mother Hinex to them. Minnie loved the Lord, she truly loved the entire Galilee church family and spoke often of the great kindness shown towards her by members of all ages, she felt very blessed and always felt truly loved.

Minnie loved and was a devoted wife, mother and mother-in-law. However, her life as MawMaw to her grandchildren and great grandchildren added unmatched joy and longevity to her life, from the long phone calls with LaTasha and Paul, to Cjay and Christian overnight stays and having C.Jay make for her a “C.Jay Dog” for dinner, to hearing ‘Lil” Mike play that “horn”, that’s what she called the saxophone, to just seeing, hearing, and loving on all her great grandchildren.

Preceding Minnie in death were her parents, all eight siblings, her husband Joseph Hinex Jr, and son Joseph Hinex III. She leaves to continue the Celebration of Life, children Daughter-in-law Susie Hinex, Curtis Hinex, (wife Carol), Ethel “Eth” Hinex, and Tonya, (husband Pastor Michael Ford). Special daughters Dr. Angela Houston, LaShai Rhone and special son Anthony Rhone. Grandchildren, Latasha, Paul, Michael, C.Jay, and Christian. Great grandchildren, Adrian, Azareal, Ariel, Maya, Grace, Michael T. and Tyson. A very special aunt Christina Hankins, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Viewing will be from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2026 and from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026 at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, OK. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at Galilee Baptist Church in Shawnee, OK.
