Maxine May (Petersen) Henslee, age 92 and a long-time resident of Konawa, Oklahoma passed away at her home August 29, 2025.
A graveside service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 6, 2025 at Konawa Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa. Rev. Mitch Williams and J.R. Phillips will officiate.
Maxine was born June 20, 1933 in Bakersfield, California to Walter Christian “Boss” Petersen and Luteria “Luty” (Esponda) Petersen. She graduated from East Bakersfield High School, and she married Jackie Lamont “Jack” Henslee on August 10, 1959 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Maxine and Jack came to Oklahoma in 1962 with their six-week old daughter. She started attending the Assembly of God Church of Konawa in the late 1960's where she became a member and a Sunday School Teacher for many years. She loved the little children with all of her heart, and they loved her too. Maxine and Rev. Williams’ wife, Debbie loved to buy and plant flowers in front of the church in the spring of each year for as long as Maxine was able to do so. She also loved cooking, sewing, volunteering for activities at the church, raising cattle and goats, and riding her 4-wheeler.
She is survived by four grandchildren whom she loved dearly; three great grandchildren; and many friends, loved ones, and her special church family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years, Jack Henslee; her parents, Boss and Luty Petersen; two daughters, Tina Jeanette Henslee and Stacey Jo (Henslee) Mathis; one brother, Jake Petersen; and wonderful sister-in-law, Donna Petersen whom Maxine jokingly said, “loved to tell me what to do”.
