Lewis David Carpitche

Seminole resident Lewis Davis “Pennoke” Carpitche, 85, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2026, in Seminole.

Pennoke, the son of Coffey Carpitche and Sallis Davis Burgess, was born June 11, 1941, in Vamoosa. He worked in construction for many years and later in life worked as a librarian.

Pennoke was a proud member of Arbeka Baptist Church, but has recently been attending High Springs Church Indian Baptist Church in Konawa. He loved to drive, and for many years, enjoyed driving his parents to outings and dinners. He also had a deep love of music and often combined his love of driving and music by traveling to churches for fourth Sunday meetings. When schedules allowed, Pennoke would sometimes visit three or four different church singings in a single day.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Caesar Carpitche; and his sister, Louise Carpitche.

Pennoke is survived by his nieces and nephews: Martha Carpitche and Kellos of Shawnee; Timothy Carpitche and Deanna of Ada; Emma Carpitche and Henry Tremale of Vamoosa; Oscar Carpitche of Seminole; and Hilde Carpitche and Firewolf Jeffries of Skiatook. He is also survived by a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, other family members, and friends.

Casket bearers will be Jericho Carpitche, Ceasar Carpitche, John C. Moon, Dean Walker, Herman Foster, Devin Reynolds and Woody Micco.

A wake service will be held Monday, September 7, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at High Springs Indian Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at High Springs Indian Baptist Church, with Skip Foster and Barton Looney officiating. Burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
