Lawrence "Skip" Kenneth Edwards

March 27, 1951 — December 1, 2022

Lima

Lawrence “Skip” Kenneth Edwards went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 1, 2022 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 71.  Lawrence was born on March 27, 1951 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Sam Henry Edwards and Lenora (Hunter) Edwards.  He married Carolyn Jean Johnson on August 21, 1969 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

Lawrence enjoyed fishing, riding horses, watching basketball games, studying Sunday school lessons and going to church.  He spent his whole life in Lima, Oklahoma on the 80-acre farm which was his happy place affectionately known as “The Ponderosa”.  Lawrence was a dedicated school board member of over 35 years, Sunday School teacher and Lima council member.  He was a two-time State Champion with Lima Falcons 66-67 and 67-68.  His high school career in basketball only saw 4 losses.  He always said there would have been three  championships if he hadn’t sprung his ankle the following year.

Lawrence would often tell his children the story of him fighting a bear and making his Stetson cowboy hat out of the bear fur coat.  Then he would pull out his homemade hunting knife “made from the bear’s bones”.  The story goes on that during the fight with the bear, Pegasus, the solid black horse with wings, came to help him somehow and he rode Pegasus all the way back to the Ponderosa.  He enjoyed telling this story and family remembers these stories fondly.

Lawrence is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carolyn Jean Edwards of the home; two sons, Ernest Edwards and wife, Paula of Wewoka and Kenneth “Juice” Edwards and wife, Bryisha of Shawnee; daughter, Connie Edwards-Bert of Del City, Oklahoma; three brothers, Wallace Edwards; Terry Edwards and wife, Monica and Kim Renado Edwards and wife, Dedra; three sisters, Rose Cravens and husband, Sherman, Carol Ann Morris and Senobia James and husband, Ronnie; 10 grandchildren, Tyson, Erin, Alana, Brandon, Alissia, Paula, Carlee, Kobi, Kruz and Tad Pole; 31 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild and a host of other family and friends.
