Seminole

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the unexpected passing of LaVere Bishop, 96 of Seminole, OK on May 23, 2026 from a cardiac arrest. She was born on May 27, 1929 in Oklahoma City to Myrtle and Clare Williams. She attended the University of Oklahoma where she was a member of Delta Gamma. She met and married the love of her life, William Eugene Bishop in 1949. She moved with him to Seminole where he started his law practice and they started a family. There she was an active member of PEO and the First United Methodist Church. She and Bill had 3 children and loved to travel to fishing destinations in TX, CO and MT. Notably, one summer the family ventured to Europe and spent 6 weeks seeing the sights with the challenges of their oldest child, Becky a quadriplegic in an electric wheelchair.

Throughout much of her life, she lovingly cared for Becky with extraordinary dedication and selflessness. She also took care of Bill and her mother in their later years. Her care was a reflection of her deep compassion and steadfast commitment to family. Though the sacrifices were great, she carried them with dignity, optimism, and without complaint, becoming an example of unconditional love to all who knew her.

She lived a life defined by devotion to her family, unwavering faith, quiet strength, and remarkable grace. She was also a wonderful mother to her other 2 children, Andy and Amy, and a loving grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many.

Known for her positive attitude and independent spirit, she brought warmth and encouragement wherever she went. In her later years, she volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Interfaith ministries. She supported large and small charitable organizations including Seminole State College and her church. She was a big fan of all things OU, the Dallas Cowboys, OKC Thunder and the Denver Broncos. She remained sharp, social, and engaged, especially enjoying one of her favorite pastimes—playing bridge with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband, Bill, brother Art Williams, eldest daughter Becky and her eldest granddaughter, Casey Lynn Schumacher. She is survived by her 2 devoted children, Andy (Murri) Bishop, Amy (John) Schumacher, 4 granddaughters, Lora (Bryan) Grabowsky, Sarah (Will) Laudun, Chris Ann (Craig) Marshall, Katey (Erik) Schommer and 5 precious great grandchildren.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at First United Methodist Church, 910 W. Wrangler Blvd. Seminole, OK on Friday, May 29th at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First United Methodist Church of Seminole or a charity of your choice.

The family wishes to thank all those who loved and supported her throughout her long and meaningful life. A special thanks to Hammett Atyia for helping her maintain her beautiful home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
