He was a proud grandfather to Monica and Jeremy Jinkins of Shawnee, Weston and Sally Young of Enid, Jacob Hicks of McAlester, Zachary Young of Oklahoma City, and Wyatt Hicks of Seminole. Larry was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly.

He is also survived by his brothers, Randy Hicks of Cromwell, Oklahoma, and Doyle Hicks and wife Gale of Denton, Texas; his sister-in-law Martha and Ray Edwards of Springtown, Texas; his brother-in-law Bob and Fay Hobson of Alvarado, Texas; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

Larry was drafted in 1965 and proudly served his country in the United States Army as a medic during the Vietnam era. Following his military service, he married Gayla in 1968 and began a lifelong commitment to serving both his family and his country. He worked as an Operating Room Technician in Fort Worth, Texas, before moving to Seminole in 1976, where he worked in the oil field for Dowell as a Field Supervisor. Larry later rejoined the Army and served with the Oklahoma National Guard until his retirement after 25 years of service, as an Automation NCO for the Recruiting and Retention Command OKARNG. From 1988 to 2010, he also taught evening classes at Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee, sharing his knowledge and experience in computers and technology with others. He continued working as a military contractor with the Oklahoma National Guard for several years. During the last years of his life, Larry worked with Swearingen Funeral Home, where he continued serving and caring for others until his passing.

Larry enjoyed videography, riding horses, and classic westerns, especially those starring Roy Rogers and John Wayne. He treasured recording special events and preserving memories for his family and friends. Above all, Larry deeply loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was incredibly proud of his service to his country.

He was a member of Rock Creek Baptist Church and the Seminole American Legion, and he faithfully served various churches throughout his life through his media ministry.
