Joe Terry Flanary, age 78 and a long-time resident of Konawa, Oklahoma, passed away January 22, 2026 at his home in Konawa, Oklahoma.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 29, 2026 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa. Rev. Wesley Martin will officiate, and burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery. Casket bearers are Paul Merrell, Tim Duck, Josh Kirkwood, Dwayne Lee, Connor Pellman, and Bob McDonald. Honorary bearers are Jack Merrell, Zeb Bowles, Teddy Eberle, Bodee Flanary, and Nash Howell. The family will greet guests 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Joe was born September 26, 1947 in Oklahoma City to J. T. Flanary and Kathleen (Bone) Flanary. He graduated from U.S. Grant High School and attended college at Oklahoma State University. He married Debra Ann Watters December 21, 1973 in Konawa, Oklahoma. Joe proudly served in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam as an Ensign 3rd Class from 1965 until 1969. Joe retired after thirty-two years of service as an electrician for OG&E.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Debbie Flanary of the home; two sons, Rick Flanary and wife, Lacee of Ada, Oklahoma, and Bobby Flanary and Chloe Thomas of Leigh, Oklahoma; one daughter, Amy Lanning of Norfolk, Virginia; five grandchildren, Jaelyn Flanary, Bodee Flanary, Trevor Lanning, Hayzlee Walton, and Whitley Flanary; one great grandchild, Nash Howell; and many other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J. T. and Kathleen Flanary; one son, Terry Flanary; and one sister, Sue Jones.
