Jimmy Joe Harjo , age 84 and a resident of Konawa, Oklahoma passed away May 14, 2023 at his home.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at Spring Baptist Church under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa, Oklahoma. Dale Landreth and Nathan Isaacs will officiate, and burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery. Casket bearers are Beau Johnson, Justin Johnson, Jerry Landreth, Tommy Harjo, Dale Landreth, and Zeb Kuestersteffen. Honorary bearers are Ronald Sestak and Keys Hardgrave. The family will receive quests at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening.
Jimmy Joe was born April 12, 1939 in Bristow, Oklahoma to Wesley Harjo and Juanita (Keys) Smith. He graduated from Sasakwa High School, and he worked as an oilfield pumper. He was a member of Spring Baptist Church, and he was a big OU and sports fan. He also loved going to the casino.
He is survived by his wife, Linda (Vancevering) Harjo of the home; one son, Ricky Harjo and wife, Lavonna of Ada, Oklahoma; one daughter, Lisa Johnson and husband, Victor of Sasakwa, Oklahoma; one half-brother, Ernie Smith of Arkansas; one sister, Betty Hardgrave of Wewoka, Oklahoma; one half-sister, Lajuana Patrick of Eufaula, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren, Dale Landreth, Jerry Landreth, Melissa Isaacs, April Landreth, Beau Johnson, Matthew Harjo, Tommy Harjo, Destinie Huffman, Diane Palmer, Sara Sestak, and Candice Sestak; nineteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Sherry Palmer, one great grandson, Jaxon Isaacs; and one brother, Donald Harjo.
