Seminole, OK resident James “Jim” Dale Sorrell passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2026 in Oklahoma City at the age of 85. Jim was born on September 17, 1940 in Amity, Arkansas to Claudis J. and Ova (Brooks) Sorrell. He moved to Live Oak, CA in 1957 and raised his family in Chico, CA from 1974 until 2006. In 2006 he moved his family to Seminole, OK.
Jim enjoyed fishing, turning strangers into friends, telling jokes, and making deals. He was a member of the Elks Club for a short time in Chico, CA. In the 1960’s through 1980’s Jim managed Singer Sewing Machine Stores until the company sold to House of Fabrics. In 1983 Jim owned and managed video tape rental stores in California, until that industry dried up in 1994. In 1995 he opened his secondhand store, Quality Resale, which he nicknamed “Jim’s Junk”. After moving to Seminole in 2006, Jim continued his vintage sewing machine business (which he first operated out of Jim’s Junk) through word of mouth, quilting shows and handing out thousands of business cards. His knowledge of these sewing machines and ability to restore and repair them to heirloom quality made him the go to authority on the Singer and Feather Weight sewing machines.
Jim’s sense of humor, infectious laugh and personality affected the lives of everyone who was lucky enough to meet him. His impact on his friends and family was immeasurable and Jim’s memory will continue to bring joy to all that knew him.
Jim met his wife Peggy in Live Oak, CA after her family relocated there from Hulbert, OK. They married in 1959 and started their family in 1961. They raised two children, Cindy (1961-2025) and Steve (1965).
Jim is survived by his wife, Peggy Sorrell; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Lisa Sorrell; granddaughter, Christina Timberlake; three beautiful great granddaughters, Amaryah “Ammy” Downs, Gracie Timberlake and Wavy Timberlake.
A graveside memorial will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at Little Cemetery. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Ok.
