James Edward Brinsfield

SEMINOLE

Seminole resident, James Brinsfield, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2025, in Seminole, at the age of 78.

James, the son of Edward and Vernita Lee Brinsfield, was born January 10, 1947, in Seminole. He attended Varnum High School and graduated with the class of 1965 and then enlisted in the US Navy. During his career in the military, he served aboard the USS Hornet, during the Vietnam War and the recovery of Apollo 11, in July, 1969. Upon completing his obligation to the US Navy, he transferred to the Oklahoma National Guard, a post he would ultimately retire from, after spending 20 years with the OKARNG Battery B Artillery unit. While serving in the OKARNG he spent time in Germany, training with the German Forces. He then attended Seminole Junior College. James made his career on the highway as a heavy load truck driver, working for Arrow Trucking. James led a full life, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing golf and computer games, and bowling. James had his pilot license and worked on aircraft, and love watching movies. A proud veteran, He loved truck driving, a job that took him countrywide and through Canada. James’ favorite times were spent with family; he particularly enjoyed his time with Bill and Gladys Brinsfield while growing up fishing with their family. 

James married the love of his life, Joyce Houck on December 29, 1970 in Seminole, OK and they shared 54 years together. 

James was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Vernita Brinsfield; a granddaughter, Kallice Brinsfield; sisters, Peggy and Sandy; and a nephew, Robert Brinsfield II.

James is survived by his wife, Joyce Brinsfield, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, James II, and Pam Brinsfield, of Seminole and Daniel Leitka of Seminole; daughters and son-in-law, Lori Brinsfield, of Seminole, and Serena and James (Jim Ed) Ray, of Wetumka; grandchildren, Cindel Sneed, Jazmyne Landrum, James Ray, Phillip Ray, Michael Ray, Emily Houser, Jenna Houser, Kirsten Goodman and Alex Childs; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Wanda Brinsfield, London, AR., and Tommy and Betty Brinsfield, of Yukon; sister, Carma Fitzwater, of Tilly AR.; along with many other family members and friends.

Services will be Monday, May 19, 2025, at 2:00 P.M., at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, with interment to follow at Little Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
