Hettie Allen Lindsey

Hettie Allen Lindsey, 74, passed away peacefully at home on August 23, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was a woman of incredible resilience who fought a hard battle and is now reunited with the loved ones who went before her.

For over 30 years, she dedicated her professional life to her career as a Head Start teacher, spending the majority of those years with the Seminole Nation Head Start program. As the first smiling face many children saw as they started school, she taught far more than the alphabet, colors, numbers, and our language. She planted seeds of confidence, kindness, and creativity in generations of children who still remember her warmth today.

Outside of work, she filled her days with the things that brought her true joy. Some of her happiest moments were spent camping in Tahlequah and watching her children, and eventually her grandchildren, enjoy the river. Whether she was cheering on the Varnum Whippets or quietly watching her family grow, she was always her children’s and grandchildren’s biggest fan. She also enjoyed watching home improvement and crime shows, and she possessed a creative soul with a unique gift for turning simple materials into beautiful keepsakes. Her loved ones will forever cherish the crafts she made with so much love.

She leaves behind a profound legacy most visibly seen in the lives of those she raised. Known for being independent, strong, kind, caring, and unwaveringly devoted to her family, her loved ones will deeply miss the comforting routines of daily life and the reassuring sound of her voice. She will be missed beyond words, but her strength lives on in the hearts she touched.

After a lifetime of teaching, creating, and loving fiercely, she is preceded in death by her husband, Larry England, and her parents, Noah and Minnie (Harjo) Lindsey.

Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by her survivors: her three daughters, Eliza Harjo, Lindsey Wise-Talmasey and Kodi Martin, Cherokee England and Ryan Mack, and one son, Ellis Wise-Talmasey II; ten grandchildren, Quentin Sandfur, Cienna Works, Jesslyn Works, Janaeya Thomas, Kameron Mack, Kallen England, Kaenan Mack, Melah Mack, Jeremiah Works, and Roman Thomas; two great-grandchildren, Zane Wildcat and Damian Saenz; and her beloved dog, Max.

A wake service will be held at Swearingen Funeral Home at 5pm to 7pm, Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

A service celebrating her life will be held at Mekusukey Mission gym at 10am, Thursday, August 27, 2026.  Gravesite will be at England Family Cemetery.

Honoring her as pallbearers will be Jumbo Tiger, Ryan Mack, Cody England, Tristan Thomas, Stuart Lincoln, and Bubba Fixico.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Ellis Wise-Talmasey II, Quentin Sandfur, Kameron Mack, Kallen England, Kaenan Mack, Jeremiah Works, Roman Thomas, Matt Barber, Zane Wildcat, and Damian Saenz.
