Helen Loraine (Smith) Mowery

Helen Loraine (Smith) Gatewood Mowery , age 91 passed away peacefully February 19, 2022 at her home in Ada OK.

A memorial service will be planned at a later date, and cremation is under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa, Oklahoma.

Helen was born May 14, 1930 in St. Louis, Missouri to Leeander Smith and Sarah (Foster) Smith.  She married V. O. Gatewood of Piggott, Arkansas on December 20, 1958. Helen was a member of Wrights Chapel United Methodist Church of Piggott.  Helen worked as a housekeeper for a hospital, but she spent most of her life as a homemaker, a loving wife, and step-mother to V. O.’s youngest son, Danny. Helen was later married to Kenneth Mowery of Piggott.

Helen is survived by three step-sons, Donald Lee Gatewood of Ada, Oklahoma, Danny Ray Gatewood and wife, Pat of Forest, Mississippi, and David Mowery and wife, Terri of Horn Lake, Missouri; two step-daughters, Joyce (Mowery) Boshell and husband, David of Saraland, Alabama, and Annette (Mowery) Dutka and husband, Duane of Piggott; and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by husbands, V. O. Gatewood and Kenneth Mowery; four step-children, Lawanda Crawford and husband, Art, Billy G. Gatewood and wife, Cathy, Earl Dewayne Gatewood and wife, Katherine, Wayne Mowery and wife, Patsy; three brothers, Herbert Smith, Doyle Smith, and Hershel Smith; and one sister, Eva Seagraves.
