Glenda Pearl Conner

July 8, 1938 — June 12, 2025

Seminole

Seminole resident Glenda Pearl Conner, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2025, in Prague, at the age of 86.

Glenda, the daughter of Clarence and Essie (Macgruder) Turner, was born July 8th, 1938, in Seminole. She attended and graduated from Pleasant Grove High School, with the class of 1955, of which she was the class Vice President. She was also a 4-year starting guard on her high school basketball team. Glenda married Ronald Francis Conner at the First Church of God, with a reception at Jelly’s Cafe’ on November 23, 1953. Ricky Lynn was the first son born December 12, 1956 and Ronald Trace was the second son born October 27, 1969. They were happily married for 64 years before his passing January 9, 2017. She worked at Jelly’s Café following their marriage while Ronnie was in the Army. In 1962, Glenda attended Shawnee Beauty School and graduated. Her career started as a beautician at Ruth Merrits shop and was the first of her seven classmates to open her own shop Glenda’s House of Hair Design. She owned and operated her shop for 60+ years making both men and women beautiful for special occasions or just a night on the town. She truly loved her customers and accommodated their schedule regardless of her own. She was a Fashion Icon! Glenda loved her career and all the women who made it fun. Phyllis Adams, Linda Barnes, Charolette Kennedy, Kim Chaffin, Ginny Stewart, and Shirley Lee. They were her Golden Girls!

Glenda loved staying connected with both sides of her family, whether visiting in person, calling, texting, or Facebook. Glenda was a devout Christian and was a member of the First United Methodist Church and later a member of the First Baptist Church. She volunteered her time and money for anything or special projects. While attending Sunday services, she was quick to hand out hard candy or Dentyne most likely to keep us quiet. She loved all animals. Baby, Candy, Star, Pooh, Bear, Jazzy, Stormy, and any of our neighborhood’s homeless.

Sleepovers at G’s for grandkids always meant a trip to Walmart for that special something and to McDonalds for a happy meal. She was a relentless caregiver taking care of her mother on a daily basis until her passing and followed up with her husband until his passing. She had the biggest servant’s heart you could imagine.

Glenda enjoyed card games, Gin Rummy, multicount puzzles, shopping, and decorating for the holidays. She loved watching sports, particularly collegiate basketball, OSU Football, Golf, and Horse Racing. She traveled to many of OSU’s Bowl games, to Oaklawn and Remington racetracks, and she never missed a sporting of performance activity of her children and grandchildren. She was very lucky, often winning by betting on the jockey’s colors or the horse trainer and unfortunately liked Bob Baffert. Current champion at Left-Center-Right dice game, Saran Wrap ball, Rumba Pool and Gin Rummy unless the grandkids were involved then she’d let them win.

Shopping at the Dallas Market for her boutique with family was always on the calendar. She hosted all family gatherings, Thanksgiving and Christmas with a full picture book decorated spread that included multiple varieties of food from legacy recipes. Amazing deserts, pull bread, sourdough, giblet gravy, dressing, brandy ice and arguably the best mac-n-cheese on this earth.

It was a tradition for many years to attend the Nutcracker play in Oklahoma City.

Glenda was a member of the Thunderbird Hair Dressers Organization, where she taught and judged at hair styling competitions for many years. She was also a volunteer for the Seminole County Election Board, as well as a member of the Seminole First United Methodist Church, and then the Seminole First Baptist Church, where she was an active member of the YAH, Young at Heart and Adult G Bible class. She was a Moms Club Committee Member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity at OSU; and she was a licensed cosmetologist for 60+ years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Essie and Clarence Turner; her husband, Ronnie Conner; and by her brother, Raymond Turner.

Glenda is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Tammy Conner of Seminole, and Trace and Shelly Conner, of Seminole; four grandchildren, Andrew Conner and his wife Shannon, Caley Smith and her husband Matt, Chloe Conner, and Chase Conner; one great grandchild, Sutton Smith; and many other family members and friends.

There will be a reception from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at Swearingen Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at Maple Grove Cemetery, with Nick Atyia officiating. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
