Gene Lovoe Miller

July 23, 1930 — July 7, 2025

Oklahoma City

Gene Lovoe Miller died July 7, 2025. Gene was born on July 23, 1930, to Jacob Joseph “Jake” Miller and Bessie Jewel Rodgers Miller on a farm near Weatherford, Oklahoma.

He attended school at Deer Creek, a one room schoolhouse near Weatherford, Oklahoma, until his family moved to the Cowden, Oklahoma community when he was in the 3rd grade. Gene graduated from Cowden High School.

Gene married Rose Gail Underwood Miller on July 28, 1948, and they had four children Donnie, Danny, Terry and Steven.

In 1974 Gene married June Scott Miller who had four children Ed, Cheryl, Stephen and Donna. Gene and June made their home in Seminole and spent 43 years together until her death in 2017.

Gene was an ordained minister in the Church of God denomination. He served as pastor for churches in Choctaw, Edmond, Seminole, and Ada. Many people became ministers through the influence of Gene’s leadership and service.

When Gene was no longer pastoring, he attended the Bowlegs Assembly of God Church and spent much time helping Pastor Robertson and others with the construction of the church. He also ministered to many of his co-workers at Blue Bell. Later he attended the Seminole First Assembly of God Church.

Gene worked at Boulevard Animal Hospital in Midwest City from 1960 until 1975. He then worked at the Blue Bell factory making Wrangler jeans. When he retired from Blue Bell, he and June began breeding and showing finch birds. Their finches won many National Best of Show Awards. When they could no longer travel, Gene began raising other animals such as chickens, pigeons, donkeys, sheep and goats. He loved spending Thursday evenings with his sister Velta at the Maud auction buying, selling, or just enjoying the sale with many friends.

Gene spent much of his time on his small farm across the road from his sister Velta and brother- in-law Dale. They continually helped one another and after Dale died, Gene and Velta relied heavily on each other to maintain the animals and farms. When you saw one, you saw the other. When Gene could no longer drive, she would drive, and Gene said he had to go with her because she didn’t see very well, and he would have to read the signs for her.

Gene is preceded in death by his mother and father, Jake and Bessie Miller; sons, Donnie Lynn Miller, Steven Ray Miller, Danny Lovoe Miller; brother –in- law Dale McSperitt, and nephew Randall McSperitt.

Gene is survived by his son, Terry Miller (Gail); sister Velta McSperitt; grandchildren Jennifer Weaver (Chris), Kimberly Miller (Andrew), Amanda Miller (Brick), and Todd Miller; and great grandchildren Isabella Rohacik and Greyson Hardridge.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, July 11, 2025, at the Bowlegs Assembly of God Church beginning at 10:30 a.m.
