Eldon Dean Kean, Shawnee resident, passed away on Friday, August 1, 2025 in Shawnee at the age of 91. Eldon was born on January 23, 1934 in Seminole, OK to Albert and Cora (Edney) Kean. He married Betty on July 21, 1953 in Gainsville, TX. He began working for Greens Oklahoma Liquified Gas in 1972 and retired from the company in 2004. He enjoyed his customers. Eldon and Betty delivered propane together for 32 years and enjoyed every minute of it. After he retired he bought and drove his dump truck for another 5 years.
Eldon loved to work with his cows and horses. His garden was especially significant to him and after his retirement his watermelon patch was a great source of pride. He always wanted to see how big of a watermelon and cantaloupe he could grow. His last garden was a large watermelon and cantaloupe patch with 120 hills of watermelons and 80 hills of cantaloupe. Eldon loved to watch his children and grandchildren eat the melons. Needless to say, many watermelons and cantaloupes were given away and shared. The garden was really hard work but it brought Eldon so much joy.
Eldon is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Tina Kean of Seminole; daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Jim Radford of Shawnee, OK, Patsy and Dale Dodd of Whitesboro, TX and Sharon and Eldon McCoy of Eufaula, OK; brothers and sisters-in-law, Carroll Don and Barbara Kean of Missouri and Lonnie and Kim Kean of Seminole, OK; sisters, Sue Leemaster of Seminole and Glenda Roland of Paul Valley, OK; 13 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren and two more on the way; and many other family and friends.
Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Cora Kean; wife, Betty Kean; son, Ronnie Kean; grandson, Clayton Kean; brothers, Jimmy Kean, Kenneth Kean, Jerry Kean and Melvin Kean; sisters, Dora Jacks and Barbara Kean.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Regency Nursing Home and Cohesive Hospice for the care Eldon received.
