Edgar Cape Guyton

Seminole resident Edgar Cape Guyton, 91, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2026, at his home.

Edgar was born December 11, 1934, in Red Oak, Oklahoma, to Roy Oliver and Ruth Inez Marie (Hardaway) Guyton. He attended Norse Elementary School and later Red Oak High School, graduating in 1953.

After high school, Edgar worked at Greenleaf Lake Marina, where he met his future wife, Effie White. Effie worked at Greenleaf Lake as a tutor and in the restaurant. Edgar and Effie were married May 14, 1954.

In 1955, Edgar, working as a welder, helped build two OG&E plants: the Horseshoe Lake Power Plant in Harrah and the Mustang Power Plant in Mustang. He and Effie moved to Del City in 1962, where they lived until 1975, when they purchased a home in Seminole and made their life there.

After working for OG&E, Edgar entered the oilfield, working for Parker Construction and Fraley Construction. In 1969, he joined the 798 Pipe Liners and Pipe Fitters’ Union. Throughout his career, Edgar and Effie traveled throughout the United States while he worked welding and pipeline jobs. He retired in 1996.

Edgar enjoyed fishing, raising cattle, and watching his horses. He was a longtime member of the 798 Pipe Liners and Pipe Fitters’ Union, the Seminole Masonic Lodge, and the Shriners. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite in McAlester.

Edgar was preceded in death by his wife, Effie; his parents, Roy and Ruth; his sister, Jeannette Wilder; his son, Eddie Guyton; and a grandson, James Guyton.

He is survived by his son, Eric Guyton of Allen; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.

Cremation services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
