Maud, Ok resident Donald Dalaine Peters passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at his home surrounded by family at the age of 91. Donald was born on December 27, 1934 to Carl Frank and Hazel (Rutledge) Peters 6 miles west of Maud on the farm his grandfather purchased which his family still owns. He was a 1952 graduate of Maud High School and later attended Oklahoma A&M. Donald worked as a meter man for Union Texas Petroleum for 34 years. He married Betty Sue Fulkerson on December 12, 1954 in Maud. They raised three sons together.
Donald was a member of the Maud Historical Society and Co-Founder of the Chamber of Commerce also serving as president. He was a member of the Round Up Club and a devoted member of the First Church of God of North America. He loved his farm and cattle and above all else his family and his grandchildren. Donald enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities.
Donald is survived by his wife of 71 years, Sue Peters of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Kay Peters of Maud, OK, Tony Peters and Michelle Brown of Maud and Jeff and Juneva Peters of Checotah, OK; eight grandchildren, Audrey Bourque, Amy Peters, Nicholas Peters, Alicia Henshall, Matthew Peters, Daniel Peters, Chelsea Simmons and Chet Peters; ten great grandchildren, Crew, Chloe, Haddie, Lawson, Hazel, Beau, Fossy, Prin, Colton and Drake; and many other family and friends.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Hazel Peters; son, Patrick Peters and sister and brother-in-law, Curtis and Wanda O’Daniel.
Those serving as casket bearers will be Nicholas Peters, Matthew Peters, Daniel Peters, Derrick Bourque, Joey Porter, Zack Henshaw, Kyle Simons and Chet Peters.
Honorary casket bearers will be Britt Waltman, Junior Hutchens, Stanley Gregory, Eugene Robertson, CV Robertson, Ashley Postman, Paul Lucy and Travis Palmer.
Viewing will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at Swearingen Funeral Home in Maud, OK.
Donald’s family will greet family and friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Swearingen Funeral Home in Maud, OK.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at Trinity Baptist Church in Maud with Pastor Butch Bradley and Pastor Carl Whitfield officiating. Interment will follow at Cummings Cemetery in Maud, OK.
