Dewayne Peters

Norman, OK resident Dewayne Peters passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2026 in Norman at the age of 68. Dewayne was born on December 11, 1957 in San Francisco, CA to Johnny Hilton Peters and Betty Jo Walker. He was a 1976 graduate of Wewoka High School. Dewayne worked as a butcher for Crest Foods.

Dewayne enjoyed beadwork and music. He loved spending time with his family. Dewyane treasured his relationship with his Lord and Savior. He was baptized on June 25, 1967 by Rev. V. V. Harjo at his home church Middle Creek #2 Baptist Church. 

Dewayne is survived by his five sisters, Janet Strayhorn of Seminole, OK, Carleta Henshaw who resided at the home with Dewayne in Norman, OK, Darlene and husband, Mike Sisco of Seminole, OK, Kathy Fairbanks of Idabel, OK and Donna Henshaw of Ft. Gibson, OK; numerous nieces and nephews and many other family and friends.

Dewayne was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Hilton Peters and Betty Jo Walker; grandparents, Dave and Ruth Walker; brother, David Russell Walker; nephew, Merax Dockery and Ezekiel Dockery; sister, Michelle Wilson and cousin, Glen and wife, Christi Harjo.

Those serving as casket bearers will be Mickey Dockery, Brian Dockery, Tyler Parks, Solomon Parks, Joshua Matthews and Terry Sisco. Honorary casket bearers will be Alfred L. Walker, Cory D. Walker and Derek Henshaw.

Viewing will be 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 and 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, OK.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2026 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, OK with Rev. Dan Factor and Rev. Eric Thlocco will be officiating.
