Debra Ann Beene

October 10, 1957 — December 20, 2023

Seminole resident, Debra Ann Beene, passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2023, in Shawnee, at the age of 66.

Debra, the daughter of Eddie and Roxie (McGarr) Bennett, was born October 10, 1957, in Duncan, Oklahoma.  Debra graduated from Duncan High School with the class of 1976.  Debra grew up in Duncan, with her three brothers, then moved to Seminole with her husband, Rusty, to raise their family.  She attended cosmetology school and worked many years as a hairdresser at Beth’s Hair World in Seminole.  Debra was very involved in the community of Seminole, and enjoyed going to garage sales, going to movies, and attending her daughter’s, and granddaughter’s sporting events.  She was active at Cheyarha Presbyterian Church, the Seminole Arts Council, and Seminole Park Board.  Her community involvement included service on the Board of Directors for the Seminole Domestic Abuse Center and the American Heart Association Board. She also was involved in the ESA Sorority in Seminole.  Debra loved a good bargain and was always trying to find something special for other people. She befriended every person she met, and – in her words - was “happy, healthy and terrific”.

Debra’s family has requested in lieu of flowers, that donations be made in her name to the Seminole Arts Council or the Family Resource Center.  Donations to the Seminole Family Resource Center can be made at First United Bank of Seminole.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, James Gordon Bennett, Jerry Wayne Bennett, and Eddie Ray Bennett Jr.; a nephew, James Darrell Bennett; her mother-in-law, Bernice Beene; and sister-in-law, Paula Beene.

Debra is survived by her daughters, Cassie Beene and Lindsey Hughey, of Plano, Texas, and Callie and Cade Thronebury, of Holdenville; three grandchildren, Alaia Hughey, of Plano, Texas, and Baylor and Sutton Thronebury, of Holdenville; and her ex-husband Rusty Beene of Seminole.

Cremation services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
