Seminole resident, David William Haney, 75, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2025, in Oklahoma City.

David, the son of Rev. Vernon and Francis (Jim) Haney, was born December 26, 1949, in Holdenville. A resident of Hughes County, David graduated from Moss High School, with the class of 1968. David proudly served in the US Army, and fought in the Vietnam War. Following the commitment to the Army, David enlisted in the US Air Force and served there for many years; and carried his military commitment throughout his lifetime, serving on the Seminole Nation Honor Guard. A CNC technician, David worked at Tinker for several years, followed by a career with Eaton Corporation. On September 9, 1988, David married Nettie Carbitcher, in Ada. He was a member of the Kaney United Methodist Church. David enjoyed fishing and camping, taking his children and grandchildren to ceremonial tribal grounds, working on cars, going to church, and watching OU football and Thunder basketball.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Vernon and Francis Haney; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jimmy and Nancy Carbitcher; two brothers; three sisters; three nephews, Mike Dixon, Mason Dixon and BJ Brown; and a niece, Elizabeth Kaitlin Carbitcher Johnson.

David is survived by his wife, Nettie, of the home; sons and daughter-in-law, David Wayne and Lara, Haney, of Yukon; David William Haney Jr., of Seminole, and Jason Carbitcher, of Seminole; a daughter, Sarah Haney Bunyard, of Mustang; he raised a niece, Tia Michelle Brown, and two grandchildren, Bentley Ozvna Haney and Isabella Selia Haney; grandchildren, Chloe Marie Haney, Halie Mekai Haney, Nora Francis Haney, Abigail Marie Bunyard, Gabriel James Bunyard, Benjamin Vernon Haney, Addison Michael Bunyard, Noah Oliver Haney, and Reece Alexander Haney; brothers, Evan Haney, Joseph Haney, Daniel Haney, and Sandy and wife Andrea Haney, all of Seminole; and sister-in-law, Marie Dixon, of Miami, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.

Casket bearers will be Daniel Haney, Sandy Haney, Michael Haney, Ray Dyer, Michael Hart, Buffalo Hill and Rabbit Hill. Honorary casket bearers are Evan Haney, Joseph Haney, BJ Butler, Brent Butler, Gene Waweaha, Wotko Waweaha, Sam Waweaha, Gannon Brown, Issac Harjo, and the Seminole Nation Honor Guard.

A wake service is scheduled for Friday, December 19, from 5:30 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.

A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, with Pastors Rick Deer and Merle Berryhill officiating, with Wotko Long, Tyler Combs and Rabbit Hill leading the Native Hymns. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
