Darrell Wayne Mackey, age 80 and a lifetime resident of Konawa passed away September 2, 2026 at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 10, 2026 at the Performing Arts Center in Konawa. Richard Winters will officiate, and burial will follow at Violet Springs Cemetery in Konawa. Casket bearers; Dennis Mackey, Lauren Laws, Michael Laws, David Laws, Steve Duck, and Jerry Newcomb. Honorary Pall Bearers; Tyler Mackey, Jonathan Mackey, Monty Brazell, Layton Walker, Billy Jack Sharber, Kelly Hunt, Bill Dixon, Jack Merrell and Eddie Wollenberg. The family will receive guests from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

Darrell was born February 28,1946 in Konawa to Zelma Dale Mackey and Lillie Ioma (Durham) Mackey. He graduated from Vamoosa High School, and went on to be in the Oilfield business as well as becoming a rancher. Darrell was a member of Church of Christ in Konawa, and he was a member of the National Guard. He married the love of his life, Melinda Ann Parks December 31, 2007 in Oklahoma City. He loved working on oil wells, bailing hay, working cattle, pushing trees, browsing Purple Wave, Saturday lunches with the family, and playing with his fur babies.

He is survived by his wife, Melinda Mackey of the home; one son, Dennis Wayne Mackey of Choctaw, Oklahoma; one daughter, Penny Michelle Laws and husband, Allen of Midwest City, Oklahoma; four brothers, Ronnie Glen Mackey and wife, Sandra of Ada, Oklahoma, Marion Eldon Mackey and wife, Judy of Blanchard, Oklahoma, Thomas Denver Mackey of Seminole, Oklahoma and Jimmy Dale Mackey of Waldron, Arkansas; four grandchildren, Lauren Laws, Kailynn Laws, Danielle Mackey and Annabelle Mackey; three great grandchildren, Sonya, Avery and A’riyah; and many other nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Lillian Geraldine Young and Frances Lorene Wood; and one brother, David Edward Mackey. We take comfort in knowing he is reunited with them now.

Darrell will be missed more than words can carry. He was the one who showed up when you needed help, the one who made you laugh when you didn’t feel like laughing, the one who could turn an ordinary moment into a memory. His warmth, his stories — they were part of the fabric of our lives. His absence leaves a space that can’t be filled.

Darrell wasn’t just someone we loved — he was someone who made life better for everyone around him. If you knew him, you knew his laugh. You knew that grin he’d get right before he delivered a joke or gave you a hard time. His love and laughter will stay with us.He gave us joy. 

He gave us kindness. He gave us himself. And we will carry him with us always.
