Dale McGirt, McLoud resident, passed away on Monday, December 20, 2021 at McLoud Nursing Home, at the age of 74. Dale was born on January 5, 1947, in Seminole, Oklahoma to Cecil Rae and Lucille (Curley) Wolf McGirt. He was raised in Maud and became a longtime resident of McLoud until his death. Dale was a 1965 graduate of Maud High School. He graduated from the Spartan School of Aeronautics. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He retired in 2008 after a 27 year career as a jet engine mechanic at Tinker Air Force Base. Dale enjoyed taking care of his lawn, watching ball games, spending time with his two granddaughters, family and friends. He was an OSU Cowboys and OKC Thunder fan. Dale was an enrolled tribal member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation Tribe and a member of the Seminole Nation.
Dale married Wynona Wakolee and had three children. He married his second wife, Melody Rebekah Champion who preceded him in death on July 23, 2002.
Dale is survived by his two sons, Solon Rae McGirt and wife, Ella Ann (Williams) of Seminole and Ricky Lee McGirt of McLoud; daughter, Dana Dale McGirt of McLoud; step children, Jason Champion and Rebekah Champion and their children; three brothers, Robert Lee McGirt, Lindsey Bondoni and Jimmy Hughes; two sisters, Sharon Faye McGirt and Linda Kay McGirt; grandchildren, Kashina McGirt, Keona McGirt, Kierra McGirt, Phoenix Reign McGirt, Nathan Dale Yoder, Miles Bishop McGirt, Jacob Daniel Yoder, Vanessa Lynn Yoder, Isabell McGirt, Eric Scott Champion; many nieces and nephews and numerous other family and friends.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Wynona Wakolee; second wife, Melody Rebekah; brothers, George McGirt, Dean McGirt who was his twin brother and Cecil Rae Harjo.
Those serving as casket bearers will be Miles Bishop McGirt, Jacob Daniel Yoder, Solon Rae McGirt, Ricky Lee McGirt, Quentin Blaine McGirt and Christopher McGirt. Honorary casket bearers will be Lindsey Bondoni, Clarence Hopper, Tommy King, J. R. Pack, Dickie Jackson and Tommy Nowell.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma.
