Casey Robert Franklin

February 7, 1972 — May 23, 2026

Konawa

Casey Franklin was born on February 7, 1972, in Meeker, Colorado, the only son of Linda Susan Orton Franklin Carter (2019) and Delbert Franklin (2024).

Casey came from deep roots in the White River Valley of northwestern Colorado. The Spurlock and Watkin families have been part of Colorado's Western Slope since approximately 1870 and were among the families who helped settle the White River Valley. Casey carried pride in those western roots throughout his life.

From the time he was a little boy, Casey was determined to be a cowboy. Family members often recalled the day he informed his kindergarten principal that he did not need school because he was going to be a cowboy and already knew how to count to ten. When asked how he would count fifty cows, Casey confidently replied, "I'll just keep counting to ten until I get them all counted."

After his parents' divorce, Casey moved with his father to Liberal, Kansas, where he graduated from high school in 1990.

In 1992, Casey married Pamela West. During their marriage, they welcomed their son, Garrett Lee Franklin. Following their divorce, Casey built a life with Peggy Lumley. Together they welcomed their son, Trevor, in 1997, married in 1998, and later welcomed their daughter, Franki Jo, on June 30, 2000.

Casey spent his life as a cowboy. He was a skilled horseman who took pride in his work, loved animals, and was happiest around horses, livestock, and the ranching way of life that had shaped him since childhood.

Peggy Lumley Franklin preceded Casey in death on May 2, 2026. Casey passed away on May 23, 2026.

Casey is survived by his children, Garrett Lee Franklin and wife Cora Beth, Trevor Franklin, and Franki Jo Franklin; grandchildren Cady Jo, Ryett Lee, and Bodie Dean, children of Garrett Lee and Cora Beth, and Riggan, son of Trevor; stepbrothers Mitchel Carter of Rifle, Colorado, Quinten Carter of Francis, Oklahoma, and Cody Carter of Craig, Colorado; stepsister Jody Kenny of Rifle, Colorado; and numerous extended family members and friends.

Casey will be remembered for his cowboy spirit, his love of family, his kindness toward animals, and the deep western roots that shaped his life.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa, Oklahoma.
