Seminole resident, Harold Laverne “Butch” Welch, passed away Saturday, December 27, 2025, in Oklahoma City.
Butch, the son of Hubert Solon and Elsie Fern (Kay) Welch, was born December 8, 1936, in Los Angeles, California. He graduated from Strother High School with the class of 1956. On April 4, 1958, Butch married Lynne Johnson in Tucson, Arizona, while stationed there with the US Army. Butch was a truck driver and heavy equipment operator, logging millions of miles without accidents. He enjoyed camping, particularly taking trips to Robbers Cave. When his sons were boys, he coached their little league teams. He enjoyed going to Arizona to visit his family. His grandkids joked that, “Papa’s favorite word was ‘no.’”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Fern; a son, David Lee Welch; a brother, Michael Welch; and a sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca and Bud Dunn.
Butch is survived by his wife, Lynne, of the home; sons, Jeffrey Dale Welch, of Seminole, and Bradley Wayne Welch, of Ardmore; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bud and Betty Welch, of Ardmore, Dick and Josie Welch, of Georgia, Dean and Scarlett Welch, of Seminole, and Don and Mary Welch, of Seminole; sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and Cliff Christiansen, of Minnesota, and Melody and Bill Fulmer, of Oklahoma City; along with many other family members and friends.
Services will be Friday, January 2, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. at Harvey Road Baptist Church, in Seminole, with Carl Whitfield officiating. Interment will follow at Little Cemetery in Seminole. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
