Konawa resident Burl Dean Jay, 84, passed away at his home on Monday, August 3, 2026.
Burl was born on April 4, 1942, in Lamar to Tom and Lela (Maroon) Jay. On October 22, 1962, he married Faye Elliot in Holdenville. He worked for many years as an upholstery worker, including employment at Store Front and Big Yank.
Burl enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and square dancing. He was a dedicated member of the Boots and Bows Square Dancing Club and treasured the friendships he made through the club over the years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Jay; his daughter, Kristina McKitrick; his parents, Tom and Lela Jay; his brothers, Tommy Jay, Ocie Jay, Raymond Jay, Bob Jay, Lowell Jay, Joby Jay, and William Jay; and his sisters, Velva Jay, Connie Emerson, Ruby Whitsfield, Mary Grist, and Cora Mooney.
Burl is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Clifton and Rue Jay of Konawa; his daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Joe Watts of Seminole; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-four, great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren; his brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Vivian Jay; his sister, Minnie Standfield; and many other family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
Cremation services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
