Basil Underwood

Basil “Bill” Henry Underwood, Jr., 73 Basil “Bill” Henry Underwood, Jr., long time Seminole resident, passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at his home. Bill was 73 years old. Bill was born April 25, 1941 in Stafford Springs, Connecticut to parents, Basil Henry Underwood, Sr. and Margaret (Shea) Underwood. Bill moved to Seminole in 1973. He served in the United States Army with the 82nd Airborne. Bill married Lucille Marie Smart in Wichita Falls, Texas but sadly she preceded him in death. Bill was of the Catholic faith, past president of the Lion’s Club, past president of the Athletic Club and Seminole High School Hall of Fame. He was a retired meat cutter, working at Safeway, Homeland and Firelake. Bill is survived by three sons, Robert Underwood and his wife Susan of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Gary Underwood and his wife Donna of Asher, Oklahoma, Brian Underwood of Seminole, Oklahoma; one daughter, Joan Underwood and her significant other, Sonya Beaver of Seminole, Oklahoma; two brothers, Bob Underwood of San Diego, California, Wayne Underwood of Boston, Massachusetts; three sisters, Marjorie Cavanaugh and her husband Mike of Three Rivers, Massachusetts, Patricia Stewart and her husband Chuck of Oaksboro, North Carolina, Sylvia Morvarity and her husband Bud of Munston, Massachusetts; five grandchildren, Gage Underwood, Sara Painter, Rusty Richards, Basil Underwood, Sadie Davis; three great grandchildren, Kolby Painter, Ally Painter and Ryker Painter. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and thousands of people he called friend. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Basil Underwood, Sr. and Margaret Underwood, his wife, Lucille Underwood, one grandson, Derrik Wayne Underwood and four sisters, Joan, Louise, Rosa Lee and Dottie.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Marchand Fleming. Burial will take place at Little Cemetery, Little, Oklahoma with military honors. Serving as casket bearers are: Art Scott, Mike Snyder, Mike Bowman, Mike Warner, Steve Simpson, and Justin Dunn.
