Bowlegs, OK

Barbara Ann Tatum, age 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 8, 2026, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, leaving behind a legacy of love, family devotion, and cherished memories.

Barbara was born on September 7, 1940, in Wewoka, Oklahoma, to Walter and Lela (Lynch) Shuey. She grew up in the Bowlegs area and attended Bowlegs Schools, graduating with the Class of 1958. On August 7, 1959, she married the love of her life, Jerry “Keith” Tatum, in Bowlegs. Together, they built a life centered on family, lasting friendships, and countless treasured memories.

Barbara dedicated many years of service as a medical assistant to Dr. J.B. O’Keefe in Seminole, where her work allowed her to care for and serve others in her community.

Family was at the heart of Barbara’s life, and some of her greatest joys came from watching her children and grandchildren participate in sports. She treasured capturing special moments through photography and took great pride in preserving memories of the people and occasions that meant the most to her. A devoted fan of the University of Oklahoma girls’ softball team, Barbara enjoyed cheering on her favorite team. She was also a longtime member of the Seminole Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha (ESA) social sorority, where she shared fellowship and friendship with fellow members. Her generous spirit extended beyond her family and community, as she supported St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for many years.

Barbara will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her enduring friendships, and the many ways she touched the lives of those around her. The memories she created and the love she shared will remain a lasting blessing to all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.

Barbara is survived by her beloved husband, Keith Tatum, of the home; her son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Kristy Tatum, of Seminole; her daughters, Teresa and her husband, David Oakley, of Roswell, Georgia, and Shelly Tatum, of Fort Worth, Texas; three grandchildren, Carlye Yancey, Cullen Tatum, and Jake Oakley; three great-grandchildren, Tucker Tatum, Emilia Tatum, and Alyster Yancey; her sister, Clara Perino, of Kirbyville, Texas; and numerous other family members and dear friends who will cherish her memory.
