Susan Lee (McDaniel) Childers , a resident of Konawa Oklahoma entered into the Gates of Heaven dancing and prancing at 73 years young on February 9, 2024. Susan was surrounded by her husband and daughter at home with the help of the amazing Elara Caring Hospice nurses.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 16, 2024 at First Baptist Church located at 129 S. Broadway in Konawa under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa. Rev. Heath Sapp will officiate, and burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery. Casket bearers are David McDaniel, Randy Marquez, T. J. Padilla, Sean Childers, Scott Childers, and Robert Coates. Honorary casket bearer is great grandson, Cassius Keith Padilla. The family will receive guests from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday night at the funeral home.
Susan was born in Anchorage, Alaska when it was a territory on January 6, 1951. Her parents were Leeland D. and Pauline (Fredrick) McDaniel. Susan’s family moved to Gallup, New Mexico when Susan was a young girl. She participated in dance, was President of Rainbows, and the first female Student Body President. She played drums in the band and was a majorette.
She loved making log cabin quilts and growing sunflowers. Hershey’s chocolate and sweet tea were a major part of her life. Shopping and spending time with her husband, daughter, and granddaughters were her favorite things to do. Susan loved going to First Baptist Church in Konawa and running the nursery.
Susan owned Elicia & Company beauty salon for 12 years with her daughter in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Then she went to work as a Treatment Foster Parent for 20 years. She would be nominated twice for Treatment Foster Parent of the year. After retiring, she moved with her husband to Konawa, Oklahoma, and they started a small Alfalfa farm.
Susan is survived by her loving husband, Doyle D. Childers of the home; her brother, David McDaniel and wife, Stephanie of Las Cruces, New Mexico; daughter, Elicia Marquez McDaniel and husband, Randy; son, Jay; stepsons, Sean Childers and wife, Sherry of Lubbock, Texas, Scott Childers and wife, Deanna of Lubbock, Texas; granddaughters, Faith Marquez Padilla and husband, T. J., and Gracie Marquez; and many more granddaughters, grandsons, great granddaughters, and great grandsons along with her two nephews.
Susan was sunshine, yellow sunflowers, and Jesus! She danced, she jived having the time of her life, feeling that beat of the tambourine, Susie was our Dancing Queen!
