John “Johnny” Allen Dawson, 87, longtime Seminole resident, passed from this life on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Parkland Manor Living Center in Prague, Oklahoma. John was born to William Wallace Dawson, Sr. and Imogene Marie (Kagle) Dawson on November 10, 1936, in Seminole, Oklahoma. John grew up in the Seminole area and attended Bowlegs High School in Bowlegs, Oklahoma, south of Seminole, before transferring to Seminole High School where he graduated with the class of 1954. John furthered his education as a pre-med student first at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma and later transferred to the University of Oklahoma as a pre-med student before leaving to join the United States Air Force.
John joined the United States Air Force on November 28, 1955 and served his country until his discharge in November of 1959. After his time in the Air Force John became a commercial pilot and flew corporate customers for Charter Air Service Pro Pilot. During the Oil Boom he flew the corporate jet for John Hodges Trucking Company out of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. After flying for Hodges, John did radio and television advertising in Oklahoma City. He also was the Sports Editor for the Stillwater Times Magazine and loved covering Oklahoma State University sports and writing sports editorials for the magazine.
John loved to tell stories on just about any subject, he loved OSU men’s basketball, OU football, Chicago Cubs Baseball and attending all their sports activities. He enjoyed fishing, trying new food recipes and his favorite books were the Bible and Gone with the Wind.
John leaves to cherish his memories his two sisters; Juvata Rundle and her husband Doug of Seminole, Oklahoma and Keturah Ladd of Seminole, Oklahoma, his sister-in-law; Marie Dawson of Seminole, Oklahoma and several nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his mother and father, Imogene and William “Bill” Dawson, Sr. and his brother Bill Dawson, Jr.
At John’s request there will be no Memorial Services for him.
Cremation services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
